sports & adventures

The Dordogne offers a wide range of activities for the sportive mind and adrenaline lover.

To the average golfer, the Dordogne does not immediately come to mind as a popular golf destination. Nevertheless, it boasts some beautiful, challenging and sometimes physical (undulating) golf courses.

The Périgord Noir is exquisite cycling territory.

The rolling countryside is hilly, and in some parts, nearly mountainous, and coveted by cyclists wanting a bit more of a challenge on a bike trip. Tourist offices will be happy to suggest lots of possible cycling routes and provide maps – the focus in France will usually be on road cycling but most towns will also have VTT / off-road cycling nearby as well.

Walking in the Dordogne

The Dordogne valley is one of the most popular places in the world for canoeing and kayaking.

Bordered by glorious cliff-top chateaux, postcard-pretty villages and dense forests, the river that meanders through the Dordogne valley is one of the world’s loveliest spots for canoeing, over sparkling waters lively with shoals of fish and past riverbanks populated by herons, egrets and kingfishers.
